In order to serve the community more, one of IAATK's 2021 goals is to have Pop Up Food Distributions in food deserts in San Diego. Since many families do not have cars and do not have easy access to food, going into the neighborhood to hold food distributions is crucial during these difficult times.
IAATK has a partnership with United Way and Doordash to deliver food to families who live in the Barrio Logan area that do not have cars. Over 229 families receive fresh produce and non-perishable food at their door once a week. IAATK distributes from the Mountain View Community Center.
The first IAATK Pop Up Distribution was held on April 3, 2021 in partnership with We LUV San Diego. Over 300 families received bags of non-perishable food as well as diapers at the distribution. Over 20 volunteers gave their time to help us support the community.
Then, on April 24, 2021, IAATK partnered with the Chicano Federation for the Dia Del Ninos Drive-Thru Celebration. Over 300 families received toys, school supplies, non-perishable food and lots of fun.
In May 2021, we partnered with the Casa de Alabanza to serve over 400 families at the Monday and Thursday Pop-Up Distributions. Families received fresh produce and non-perishable food and bread.
On June 12, 2021, we partnered again with WeLuvSanDiego to provide diapers and non-perishable food to over 300 families in San Marcos.
More Pop Ups are planned monthly so stay tuned!
